Change your habits for success with goals

Part of the process of achieving something new is creating space for it. Just like when you buy a new lounge suite, you would either sell, donate, relocate, or throw out the old one. Similarly, when seeking intangible results, we must let go of certain thoughts and actions to pave the way for success. This includes replacing old habits with new ones, including both actions and thoughts. It’s possible to habitually think in contrast to what we desire without even being aware of it.

So, where do we start with all of this? Much like using a GPS or Google Maps, to get to “point B,” we must accurately determine “point A.” Finding our starting point demands courage, honesty, and self-compassion. It means being brave enough to face the truth and kind enough to refrain from any self-criticism.

Consider these three thought-provoking questions from a fellow coach’s book:

  1. “Who are you when nobody is watching?”
  2. “If you felt totally safe, what would you do differently?”
  3. “Who would you be if you lived beyond fear?”

Conclusion: Achieving new goals means making room for them in our lives. It’s like cleaning out old stuff to make space for new things. Changing our habits and being honest with ourselves is a necessary part of this journey. By asking important questions and being kind to ourselves, we set the stage for a meaningful and successful path toward what we want.
